After the match BT Sport pundit Robbie Savage hailed Rodgers as an ‘elite’ football manager

After the match, former Leicester player Robbie Savage said it was a pivotal victory for Rodgers’ side.

He said on BT Sport: ‘That was a huge win, a pivotal win. I think this is a different Leicester.

‘They’ve had injuries as well. Rodgers, elite manager. Could manage any team in Europe.’

Rio Ferdinand who was also a pundit for the game added that Rodgers is doing ‘unbelievable things’ with his Leicester side.

It looked Liverpool would go level on points with Leicester when Mo Salah put Jurgen Klopp’s side ahead after 67 minutes.

Then drama ensued as the Foxes saw a 78th minute penalty award ruled out by VAR and even though Maddison’s resulting free-kick found its way into the net, it was initially ruled out for offside before it was given by the video assistant referee.

Just three minutes later Vardy put Leicester ahead following miscommunication between Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson and their debutant centre-back Ozan Kabak.

Then, after 85 minutes Barnes sealed the victory, racing away from Kabak and tucking away to hand Leicester the three points.

Former Foxes striker Gary Lineker tweeted: ‘What a bonkers 5 minutes of football. It’s not good on the heart at my age. What a turnaround by LCFC.’

Leicester are hoping to bounce back this season after missing out on Champions League qualification on the final day of the 2019/20 campaign.
