Nice 0-2 Monaco: Kevin Volland and Ruben Aguilar goals help visitors ease into the last 16 of the Coupe de France following Cote d’Azur derby victory

Monaco eased into the last 16 of the Coupe de France after securing a comfortable 2-0 victory at Nice.

Cesc Fabregas starred for the Ligue 1 high flyers as he assisted Kevin Volland’s first half effort at the Riviera Stadium, with Ruben Aguilar ensuring progress by doubling the lead three minutes from time.

After an attacking start from both sides, Fabregas cut the ball back for Volland from the left, with the forward’s finish picking out the corner to give the visitors the lead.

Monaco were rarely troubled for the rest of the match, with Aguilar’s sliding finish near the end handing them a deserved win.

Niko Kovac’s side started brightly when Stevan Jovetic fired straight at Walter Benitez early on while Youssouf Fofana also forced the Nice keeper into a save.

In the Cote d’Azur on the French south coast, the home side hardly troubled the Monaco goal all evening, having just one shot on target.

Kasper Dolberg hit the post after coming on as a second half sub for Nice, but Monaco otherwise looked untroubled.

Jovetic soon went close again when he smashed into the side netting with 15 minutes to play, before Aguilar settled the derby.

Monaco’s passage into the last 16 sees them join heavyweights Paris Saint-Germain who had also cruised through their round of 32 tie at Brest on Saturday.
