Mesut Ozil wants to STAY at Arsenal in January and see out the final six months of his contract, reveals his agent despite being cut adrift and left out of Mikel Arteta’s Premier League and Europa League squads
Mesut Ozil wants to stay at Arsenal and see out the rest of his contract despite being cast aside by Mikel Arteta, insists his agent.
The German midfielder finds himself in the wilderness in north London after he was excluded from Arteta’s squads for both the Premier League and Europa League this season.
But his agent, Erkut Sogut, has insisted Ozil has no intention of leaving the club before his contract expires next summer.

Speaking to Tuttomercatoweb, when asked whether Ozil will leave in January, Sogut said: ‘Even one day is a long time in football, you never know. Of course, there are many clubs interested in him.
‘This has never changed but his willingness to honour his contract and play hasn’t changed either.
‘He’s a man of his word, loyal, and loyalty is hard to find in these times.’
Sogut also insists Arsenal ‘never told me’ that Ozil would not be registered in the Premier League or Europa League and the blow ‘hit him hard’.
He added that Ozil ‘loves the club and the fans and is deeply sorry that he has not been given a chance this season’.
The 32-year-old is currently on a £350,000-a-week contract in north London which ends at the end of this season, with Ozil set to leave the Gunners on a free transfer.
Interest appears to be high in Ozil with Turkish side Fenerbahce, Inter Miami and LA Galaxy all reportedly keeping tabs on the German’s situation.

Last week Arteta appeared to open the door for Ozil to return to the fold next month but claimed a decision has not been made on the German’s future.
The Spaniard could re-register the 32-year-old in the January transfer window but would have to reshuffle his squad as they lie 15th in the Premier League after 12 games and four home defeats in a row.
He said: ‘He’s not in the squad right now. I’m focusing just on the players we have here.
‘But, whatever happens in January, we have some time to decide.’
Ozil has not played for Arsenal since the coronavirus pandemic stopped the Premier League season in March.
Back in October, Sogut hit out at Arteta and accused the Arsenal manager of failing to tell the truth about the World Cup winner’s omission.

As revealed by Sportsmail, Ozil is convinced that, after he slammed China’s alleged mistreatment of Uighur Muslims which sparked a backlash in the Far East, Arsenal’s commercial interests in China have since contributed to their decision to leave him out.
Arteta insisted his call was purely a ‘football decision’ and nothing to do with Ozil’s behaviour, refusal to take a pay cut during lockdown or any orders from the board or ownership.
But Sogut said: ‘Arsenal fans deserve an honest explanation, not [Arteta] saying, “I failed Ozil.”
‘You didn’t fail Ozil. You failed to be fair, honest and transparent and treat someone with respect who has a contract and was loyal all the time.
‘Every single person outside knows he hasn’t treated him fairly. He didn’t give him a chance to show himself this season. If he is still under contract, the player should have the option to stay and fight for his place. Mesut hasn’t been given that.’
