Manchester United ‘confident Tahith Chong will commit to long-term deal’ amid interest from Inter Milan, Juventus and Barcelona in the winger

Manchester United ‘are confident they can keep hold of Tahith Chong this summer’ and commit the 20-year-old forward to a long-term contract.

It had been expected that Chong would leave Old Trafford, with Inter Milan, Juventus and Barcelona among the clubs interested in him.

With Chong’s contract set to expire in the summer, any suitor could have signed Chong for just a compensation fee.

But, according to the Sunday Telegraph, United are hopeful now of keeping the Holland Under 21 international.

They quote an Old Trafford source as saying the club ‘hope that offers from abroad will be resisted and the club can beat any interest.’

United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer won’t want to lose one of the club’s academy graduates

He has started one FA Cup, one Carabao Cup and two Europa League matches so far with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hoping to give him further opportunities.

If Chong commits to a new deal, it would be another indication of United’s renewed commitment to young players after Brandon Williams and Mason Greenwood made their breakthrough this season.

Inter have been leading the chase for Chong having already signed Romelu Lukaku, Ashley Young and Alexis Sanchez from United in the past 12 months.
