Man United and Real Madrid target Eduardo Camavinga ‘will reject ANY new contract offered by Rennes’

Manchester United and Real Madrid on alert as it emerges French wonderkid Eduardo Camavinga ‘will reject ANY contract extension offered by Rennes’ with his deal expiring in 2022

Manchester United and Real Madrid target Eduardo Camavinga will not be extending his contract at Rennes beyond its 2022 expiration date, according to reports.

The 18-year-old wonderkid is one of the most highly-rated teenagers in Europe and has already been capped three times by France.

Camavinga has played 77 times for Rennes since breaking into the first team two years ago but the Ligue 1 side are languishing in seventh place in the French top-flight and are set to miss out on European football next season.

The 18-year-old’s Rennes contract expires in 2022 meaning a transfer exit is likely to happen

And according to The Athletic, the midfielder’s refusal to extend his stay could lead to an exit this summer as Les Rennais could risk losing him on a free transfer at the end of next season.

Camavinga has been strongly linked with a move to Real Madrid, with Spanish news outlet AS reporting that he is likely to choose the Santiago Bernabeu over any other club should countryman Zinedine Zidane remain as manager.

Other reports in Spain have claimed that Manchester United and PSG are also keen.

His agent, Jonathan Barnett – who also represents Gareth Bale – revealed in February that a £44million price tag could be enough to prise Camavinga away from Rennes.

The player’s agent, Jonathan Barnett (above), claims Camavinga could be worth around £44m

The player himself responded to speculation about a move to the Santiago Bernabeu at the start of 2021 by stating that a decision would be made about his Rennes future by the end of the season.

The youngster told Canal Plus back in January: ‘Of course it is nice when a big club is interested in you.

‘I am at Stade Rennais. We will wait until the end of the season. We will meet around the table and we will weigh the pros and cons [then].’

Meanwhile, agent Barnett has refused to wave away speculation that a move to Madrid is likely in the very near future.

‘We have a great relationship with Rennes and we’re working closely with Eduardo Camavinga’s father and family,’ Barnett told L’Equipe.

‘The most important thing is to do what’s best for him. Real Madrid? We have a fantastic relationship with them. Ask them.’

Camavinga became known to the world when he was called up to the French national for the first time in August 2020.

Camavinga has been capped three times by France and scored a bicycle kick against Ukraine

He made his international debut a month later, becoming the youngest player to play for France since Maurice Gastiger in 1914 at 17 years, nine months, and 29 days old.

Last October, he scored a brilliant overhead kick in France’s 7-1 Nations League victory over Ukraine to elevate his status even further.

Camavinga was not called up to the France squad last month as he was picked for the Under 21s in their European Championship group stage campaign.
