Liverpool ‘monitoring former trialist and Ajax centre-back Perr Schuurs – who has been likened to a young Virgil van Dijk – after he impressed Jurgen Klopp in recent Champions League clash’

Liverpool are reportedly keeping an eye on Ajax centre back Perr Schuurs after his outstanding performance against the Reds in their Champions League clash.

The Dutch defender has been likened to Liverpool’s own Virgil van Dijk because of his commanding his performances and has already been part of the Holland national squad, without making an appearance.

Schuurs was on trial at Anfield as a 17-year-old two years ago but the club opted to let him continue his development in the Netherlands. However, The Mirror report that Liverpool are ready to make a move for the 6ft 3ins 20-year-old.

Schuurs progressed through the ranks at Fortuna Sittard before earning a move to Ajax in 2018.

Following the departure of Matthias de Ligt, Schuurs cemented a regular starting place under manager Erik ten Hag.

The defender is said to have impressed Liverpool’s coaches when he came up against them in the Champions League group stage in Amsterdam last week.

The centre back has been praised for his ability to play out from the back, a trait Klopp looks for in his defenders, and is capable of starting attacks.
