Liverpool handed boost in pursuit of Timo Werner after ‘learning RB Leipzig star’s release clause is only £30m rather than £51m’ as German striker continues to talk up move to Anfield
Liverpool have been handed a major boost in their pursuit of Timo Werner after discovering the striker’s release clause is £21million cheaper than initially thought, according to reports in Germany.
Werner has been linked with a move to Anfield in the summer and the striker has even talked up the Champions League winners and their manager Jurgen Klopp in recent weeks.
Recent reports have suggested that Werner would be available for £51m, which must be paid before April before his price goes up – but according to German news outlet Sport1, Werner is actually available for £30m.
RB Leipzig star and Liverpool target Timo Werner reportedly has a £30million release clause
The 23-year-old German international is under contract with the Bundesliga side until 2023 but his relatively low release clause could see Liverpool press forward with a move sooner rather than later.
The news will be music to the ears of Liverpool fans with a move looking more and more likely as the season progresses.
Werner has flirted with a switch to Merseyside and recently claimed he would ‘fit in well’ at the club.
‘Jurgen Klopp is the best coach in the world,’ he told Sky Germany last week.
‘There is a lot to suggest that my style of play would suit there (Liverpool).’

This comes after the 23-year-old said he was proud of the transfer links, claiming the Reds are the best team in the world.
‘I know that Liverpool is the best team at the moment in the world and when you are linked with that team it makes me very proud,’ he said after his goal against Spurs.
‘It’s a pleasure but I know that Liverpool play a lot of good players and I have to improve myself and I need to learn many more things to get to that level and to play there.’
Werner has 27 goals in all competitions for Leipzig this season.
The forward also scored the only goal in his side’s impressive win over Tottenham last week, to give Leipzig a big advantage going into the second leg of their last-16 clash.
