Liverpool face ANOTHER defensive injury scare as Andy Robertson drops out of Scotland’s Nations League game in Slovakia with hamstring issue and Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Trent Alexander-Arnold already sidelined

Liverpool are faced with yet another injury setback in defence with Andy Robertson ruled out of Scotland’s UEFA Nations League fixture with Slovakia on Sunday.

Scotland manager Steve Clarke confirmed Robertson has dropped out of his 23-man squad with a tight hamstring along with the suspended Lyndon Dykes.

It’s the last thing Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp wanted to hear with fellow defenders Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Trent Alexander-Arnold already sidelined.

Left-back Robertson helped Scotland qualify for Euro 2020 in Serbia on Thursday night

Klopp will hope left-back Robertson’s problem is nothing serious and that he will be fit to play Premier League leaders Leicester City next Sunday.

‘Andy Robertson is the most doubtful out of the ones who have a wee question mark over them,’ Clarke said before he officially withdrew from the squad.

Robertson played in Serbia on Thursday night as Scotland secured their place at Euro 2020 with a dramatic penalty shoot-out victory following a 1-1 draw.

The Robertson news will come as another unwelcome setback for Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp

Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic saw his penalty saved by goalkeeper David Marshall after Scotland had scored all five of their kicks.

It will be Scotland’s first appearance at a major international tournament since the 1998 World Cup.

A victory in Slovakia, who beat Northern Ireland to secure their Euro 2020 place on Thursday night, will earn Scotland promotion into the elite League A of the Nations League.

Klopp is without two key defenders with Virgil van Dijk also out for the majority of the season

Liverpool were already without centre-back Van Dijk and are likely to be so for the remainder of the season after he suffered a serious knee injury in last month’s Merseyside derby with Everton.

Fellow central defender Gomez is likely to miss most of the remainder of the season after needing surgery to repair a tendon in his left knee.

Right-back Alexander-Arnold missed England’s international triple-header this week after limping out of the 1-1 draw at Manchester City with a hamstring injury.
